20 Photos to Inspire You to Visit the Canadian Rockies

The Canadian Rockies span for more than 1,000 miles on the border of British Columbia and Alberta and are home to some of the tallest mountains in Canada. Not only do the Canadian Rockies offer the most epic mountain views, but they also have some of the most beautiful lake waters you will ever see! And yes, the waters are THAT blue. Most lakes are fed from melting glaciers which bring sediments giving the water the turquoise color when the sun hits it. It is out of this world!

Fun Facts:

Banff National Park was established in 1885 making it Canada’s first national park! It is also the most visited national park in Canada.
Jasper National Park is home to the second-largest glacier-fed lake in the WORLD! Maligne Lake is over 13 miles long and has one of the most photographed places in the Canadian Rockies: Spirit Island.
Yoho National Park is home to the second-tallest waterfall in Canada! Takakkaw Falls is 258m tall and only requires a short walk from the parking lot to see it.
Athabasca Glacier is the most-visited glacier in North America! It is part of the Columbia Icefield, which is the only remaining part of what used to be a huge ice mass covering most of Western Canada.
Columbia Icefield is home to some of the tallest mountains in the Canadian Rockies. This area can get up to 24 feet of snow per year!
Icefields Parkway is one of the most beautiful drives on the planet! It is listed in National Geographic’s “Drives of a Lifetime” because of its epic views.

Alex and I traveled to the Canadian Rockies in August 2018 when, unfortunately, the wildfires were going crazy. We didn’t get to experience the Canadian Rockies like we wanted to, but we made the best of our time there! You can see smoke in most of our pictures, but there were days where we had mostly clear skies and views! We will definitely be back to experience these epic mountains to their full extent and do more hiking.
